Wilfrid Ashley was also closely associated with the Comrades of the Great War, the forerunner of the British Legion. American troops were entertained at Broadlands in 1918. This image of a group of US officers, seen here below the west front of the house running down to the River Test, shows well the effects of the landscaping carried out under the second Viscount Palmerston.
